Simon
Meet our gentle giant, Simon!
We have a running joke at the sanctuary, we call him Smon because he is missing an eye…
Anyways dad jokes aside, this gorgeous boy is part of the bonded trio with Gordon and Chester! They are all 9 years old and originally came from a loving home in the New Forest, but unfortunately their old owner lost their land so could no longer care for Simon and the gang. Lat August our friends at Kilmarnock Horse Rescue in Crawley offered them a home at their rescue while they waited to fine their perfect forever home. Hayley saw a post about them online, and just had to meet them! They came to us on the 4th of February and Simon especially was a bit nervous at first of his new surroundings, but with his pals he has now settled in very nicely!
Simon lost his right eye when he was 5 years old. When putting simon to bed in the evening at his old home, his owners noticed his right eye was quite swollen and looked irritated. This was after a very out of character moment of him running off that day. They left it to see if it naturally improved overnight, but the next morning his eye was completely closed so they called the vet out for him. After having a look the vet said it seemed that Simon had scratched his Iris, either by a bramble bush or some barbed wire so he had to have his eye removed.
Simon is a very gentle, sweet and quiet boy, he absolutely adores Gordon and they can often be spotted grooming each other!
