Simon is our gentle giant.

At the sanctuary, we tend to call him ‘Smon’ because he is missing an eye!

Dad jokes aside, this gorgeous boy is one third of our bonded trio, along with Chester and Gordon. They originally came from a loving home in the New Forest, but unfortunately their old owner lost their land, so could no longer care for them. Our friends at Kilmarnock Horse Rescue in Crawley first offered them a home at their rescue centre while the trio waited to find their forever home.

After seeing them online, Hayley knew they would fit in perfectly at the sanctuary and they moved in in February 2023. Simon in particular was a bit nervous of his new surroundings, but with his pals he has now settled in very well!

Simon lost his right eye when he was five years old. When putting Simon to bed one evening at his old home, his owner noticed his right eye was quite swollen. They decided to see if it naturally improved overnight, but the next morning his eye had completely closed up. Their vet said it seemed that Simon had scratched his iris somehow, so he had to have his eye removed.

Simon is a sweet and quiet boy. He absolutely adores Gordon and they can often be spotted grooming each other!
