Gordon & Chester

Meet our double act, Gordon (donkey) and Chester (shetland pony)!

Gordon & Chester are a bonded pair that have lived together with Simon (so a bonded trio really!) for their whole 9 years of life! They all originally came from a loving home in the New Forest, where their old owner could no longer care for them because they sadly lost their land. This was when our friends at Kilmarnock Horse Rescue in Crawley stepped in and offered them a temporary home last August. They were there waiting to find their perfect forever home, and after seeing a post about them online Hayley just knew they would be a perfect addition to Lotus Lamb & Sheep! They came to us on the 4th of Feb 2024, and have settled into their new home so well!

Donkeys are very social animals and form deep connections with their companions. They form these connections with other donkeys and even horses! So Gordon, Chester and Simon are bonded for life so all needed to be rehomed together. If a donkey is separated from their companions they get very depressed, lose their appetite and can actually be fatal for them. So our lovely Gordon will never be alone!

Gordon is a very sweet and gentle boy, he takes his time to get to know you but once he does (with a few polos for encouragement) he is very affectionate. He likes a gentle stroke and will put his lovely big head on your shoulders for a cuddle. Chester however is a cheeky little chappy and the ringleader of the bunch! Small and mighty, he is not afraid to show them all who is boss! He is absolutely hilarious, the mischief he gets up to! He absolutely loves scratching his bum on the wheelbarrows that we muck out their stables with, causing all of the contents to be knocked over time and time again…
