Chester (Shetland pony) and Gordan (donkey) are a notorious double act!

A bonded pair that have always lived together with Simon (a bonded trio, really!) they originally came from a loving home in the New Forest. Sadly their owners had to give the trio up after losing their land. Our friends at Kilmarnock Horse Rescue in Crawley offered them a temporary home in August 2022, but after seeing them online, Hayley knew they would be a perfect addition to the sanctuary.

Donkeys are very social animals and form deep connections with their companions. If a donkeys end up separated they can become depressed, lose their appetite, and sometimes it can even be fatal.

Gordon is a very sweet and gentle boy. He takes his time to get to know you (mints tend to win him over!), but once he does he is very affectionate. He likes a gentle stroke and will even try to cuddle volunteers.

Chester is a cheeky chap and the ringleader of the bunch! Small but mighty, he’s not afraid to show everyone who’s boss. The cause of all mischief at the sanctuary, he loves to wind everyone up with his antics!
